BISCO Silicone Application

Board Level Shielding for Telecommunications Equipment

The Problem

  • Customer needed EMI isolation between high frequency devices.
  • Gasket must meet high temperature requirements.
  • Gasket must have a low closure force.

Possible Solutions

urethane coreConductive fabric wrapped gasket using a urethane foam core.
extrusionConductive hollow extrusion.

Results of Possible Solutions

  • Conductive fabric wrapped gasket using a urethane foam core.
  • Product did not meet the temperature requirements of the application.
  • Conductive hollow extrusion.
  • The Gasket could only be provided in six individual pieces. This would cause constraints on customers’ production line.

LGS and BISCO Solution

  • Rogers HT-820 Provides high temp core and low closure force.
  • FR-700 Offered ease of assembly for high volume production, without sacrificing compressibility.
  • Foil/Fiberglass Offered the conductive and high temp surface needed for the application.

End Result

Gasket solution

Gasket was designed to meet all customer requirements and is now in high volume production.

PORON Urethane Application

End plate environmental seal for a transportation tracking system remote unit.

The Problem

  • The customer was using closed cell polyurethane foam.
    • The part did not withstand elevated levels of over-the-road shock and vibration.
    • The part held up to a 50% compression set.

LGS and PORON Solution

  • LGS Sales Engineers introduced the customer to Rogers Poron.
  • The customer saw immediately the need to replace the inferior foam with Poron.

End Result

  • After testing several formulations and densities, the customer spec’d in 4701-40-15125-04.
